For our third After Work at the 38, we had the honor to welcome Gaspard Proust to talk about “creation and provocation”. Gaspard Proust is a man of many lives. Indeed after being a banker in Switzerland he decided to drastically change his life to become a humorist. This career choice was definitively a right turn for him given that he is now filling up Paris’ theaters.
On stage like in real life, Gaspard Proust blurs the boundaries between the artist and the man. Just like his humor, he tends to have a very cynical approach to life, probably due to his past lives in Ex-Yugoslavia and Algeria, two countries who have known many wars.
During his interview Gaspard Proust answered in his own way to the journalist Julien Arnaud, bringing smiles and laughter amongst the audience. Due to his very personal humor, people tend to see him as a provocateur. However, as he explained, people react and laugh because they recognize themselves or a reality in his performances, which makes him an observer rather than a provocateur. For him, the stage is a space for freedom: “it doesn’t matter to be misogynist on stage, but it does in real life.”
Gaspard Proust’s secret to make an audience laugh is to surprise them. And as the interview showed, he manages this technique to perfection!
He is now taking on new challenges by playing in a new French movie called Love lasts three years out February 2012.
Having a humorist such as Garpard Proust last Monday was a new and exciting experience that pleased the audience!
The 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is opening its doors today in the Palais des Festivals on the “French Croisette” till the 22nd of May. We have the honour to tell you that for the first time Daniel Hechter is dressing up the hostesses of this prestigious and world-famous event. Like every year, many celebrities with walk down the red carpet such as Robert De Niro, this year’s Jury president. Daniel Hechter is proud to have been chosen to represent the French elegance throughout our clothes at this event.
This month India got Daniel Hechter on the move by organising a big fashion show in its Bangalore boutique to present the new 2011 Spring and Summer collection. All of the local and national media attended the event to have the opportunity to interview Daniel Hechter designer, Christophe Blondin who came all the way from Paris for this exceptional show. Celebrities such as the models Karan Malik and Bharat Sharman, always on the cutting edge of fashion, walked down the runway dressed in trendy Daniel Hechter clothes. Many stars were also spotted in the store such as Rajesh, Anupriya, Suchita, Adhiraj and Riyaz who came to keep track of the latest fashion trends! Daniel Hechter’s Store in Bangalore was definitely the place to be for an evening of style and fashion last Tuesday 19th of April.
This event was a big success that hitIndia’s headlines in several newspapers!
For Daniel Hechter’s second After Work we had the pleasure to welcome in our boutique, rue Marbeuf, the track and field sprint athlete, Christine Arron. The Guadelupian woman defends the French flag during international competitions, has the fourth fastest time in the history of the women 100 meters and holds the European record of 10.73 seconds.
Julien Arnaud interviewed Christine Arron on the theme: “aesthetics and performance”. For Christine Arron it is important for a sport outfit to enhance a woman’s body. As she said “a woman who practices sport doesn’t have to be masculine”, on the contrary, she should stay feminine.
Aesthetics also play an important part in the race. Indeed the beauty of the gesture is important as long as it is efficient. Christine Arron describes her running style as graceful, light, fast and fluent, like a panther.
What she enjoys most are the little details that, summed up, make an athlete’s performance perfect and thus lead to victory. But the best stimulant is the positive energy from the public that can push someone to do better and to overcome his limits during an important race.
Amongst other things, she also shared with us how her mother has always wondered how she could run so fast when she could be so slow for some everyday activities!
She is currently training for the London Olympic 2012. After this event a new life will start for her. Being full of resources she has already many projects planned out. Since she is interested in different subjects such as training, sports, nutrition and well being, she is keeping her options open!
We wish her the best for the 2012 Olympics!

During his journey in India, Daniel Hechter’s artistic director for men and licences collections, Christophe Blondin-Péchabrier, was able to share his experience with students of the Millenium Fashion Design School of Bangalore. He described his career path and explained how to become a well renowned designer. The students were keen to learn about the key successes of Daniel Hechter and Christophe Blondin’s participation in it.
This has been a rich experience for both the students and Christophe who was pleased to meet the new generation of designers.
Last Thursday, the Daniel Hechter boutique Rue Marbeuf hosted its first After Work session. Thanks to Christophe Mickalak, the pastry chef of the Plaza Athénée, and Julien Arnaud, a journalist of the French television channel TF1, the event was a success and the interview brought a convivial atmosphere in the boutique.Whilst sipping champagne and eating delicious appetizers, we learned that Christophe Michalak’s secret is only to use flavours that he likes and never adapts his pastry to his client! When cooking, he always looks for the perfect mix between emotion and efficiency. Any taste should be straight, clear and distinct. Cakes have to be nice and good – as explained by the event’s theme! – but they must also create an emotion. Chef Michalak compared his pastry to haute couture, which explains why he bakes his cakes the same way we would dress a pretty woman! After this incredible night we are all looking forward to the next event with Christine Arron, who is a track and field sprint athlete, and holds the European record for the 100 meters since 1998![vimeo=http://vimeo.com/22068964]

This week-end Daniel Hechter shot its 2011/2012 Fall and Winter campaign in Montmartre, a very typical Parisian neighbourhood that also became very famous when the international blockbuster movie Amelie was filmed there! This area was chosen for its accurate representation of the brand’s style and values. Commuters at the Lamarck tube station were able to enjoy our fresh-looking shooting stage that had been covered in snow for the occasion on that bright and sunny week-end.
Keep an eye on our blog as the beautiful pictures that were shot will soon be available on it!
This will kick-off on the 31st of March with our first guest: Christophe Michalak, the pastry chief of the Plaza Athéné, on the theme “Le bon et beau” (good & beautiful). For this occasion we will welcome fifty of our privileged customers for an interview followed by a cocktail.
We hope to turn “38 rue Marbeuf” into the new place to be in Paris!
